3 Ways to Feel at Home in Your Own Body

Your body is the thing that you’ve known longer than anything, but are you showing it the appreciation you should? More importantly, are you feeling like your body is yours? When you have proper consideration of your body, there isn’t anywhere else you’d rather be. These are three ways to feel at home in your own body.

Acceptance

Body acceptance doesn’t mean that you refuse to listen to any suggestions about improving your health and wellness. It just means that you acknowledge your body as it as and don’t let it be what defines you as a person. People who are skinnier, or stronger, or have smoother skin than you are not superior to you. If you feel like you might be able to make some improvements, visit a wellness center or doctor to learn more about your own biology and make up. No one has any right to tell you that your self-worth is based on your physique. If you’ve ever known overweight people who are cheerful and people with seemingly-perfect abs who are bitter, you should know that how we feel about ourselves is based primarily on our ability to accept ourselves.

Focus on the Positive

The perfect body doesn’t exist. However, everyone has features that are absolutely beautiful. Instead of focusing on all the parts of you that you wish could be changed, focus on the ones that are the most positive. Think about how you can use them to your advantage by accentuating them. For instance, if you have really nice hair, what sort of treatment can you give it that’ll keep it looking great? You should keep your focus off of how other people look. Whenever you find yourself bemoaning that you don’t have another person’s body, realize that the only body you need is your own.

Get Good Clothes

Clothes don’t change your body, but the right outfit can give you a new look and a whole lot more confidence. Think about what feeling you’re trying to embody in any given situation, and add items to your wardrobe that will accomplish that. To add to this, you can use accessories like perfume and jewelry to further your good feelings. Just make sure that you’re not merely throwing things on yourself in an attempt to cover up insecurities. Should you be dealing with a deep-seated dislike of your body, you may need to seek mental health counseling.

Feeling at home in your own body can take time. Someone who’s been taught to feel shame about their body or has internalized negative comments can take a while to unlearn such damaging thoughts. However, you can see your body for all its worth, because the fact that it’s yours makes it absolutely priceless.
