8843993893?profile=originalIt seems strange to admit that clothing from the 1990s is now considered retro and the height of fashion. However, it is! According to the “rules” of style, the cycle tends to go back to what was hot between ten and twenty years ago, which means that in 2019, it’s “hello, 1990s.”

Many of those retro styles (which are adapted and modernized versions of 1970s retro, for the record) are back in fashion; the Oscars red carpet from the recent years speaks for the fact. Here are the top ten. Look for them in stores near you.

1) The Slip Dress

Few people have forgotten just how popular slip dresses were back in the day. After all, Courtney Love made them incredibly popular, thanks to her appearance in Sassy Magazine.

The newest versions of these dresses are made of different materials, but they have one thing in common with their predecessors – the simple silhouette that they produce. That and the fact that they are casual enough to wear with sneakers.

 2) Round Sunglasses

Round sunglasses reminiscent of the ones that John Lennon used to wear popped up again in the 90s and they are officially back!

However, the main difference is that the round lenses are now a little bigger this means that they work on a number of different face shapes. Additionally, they are available as standard glasses as well as sunglasses.

3) Overalls

Who doesn’t love a good pair of comfortable overalls? The retro ones that are in style now are a bit more formfitting than those popular in the past. They do have one thing in common with these older styles though – they are available as shortallsthat’sshort overalls.

4) Leopard Print Everything

Some would argue that leopard print never really went out of style and they wouldn’t be wrong. This print appears on everything from scarves to sweaters and even the combat boots mentioned below.

The best thing about it is that if you wear it right, it’s somewhat timeless and not at all trendy. Just don’t put on a lot of leopard print items at once. Stick to one piece at a time, as it’s definitely a statement item.

5) High Waist Jeans

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with wearing a pair of high waist, loose fit “mom jeans” these days. They are comfortable, forgiving, and very flattering – more so than the low rise jeans of the past decade or so. You’ll be able to wear this trend with just about anything, especially a leopard print sweater and some combat boots if you want to be in peak trendiness this year. You know that you can pull that off!

Still worried, this article on the types of jeans every woman should own will surely help you out.

6) Scarves

We’ve already mentioned the trendiness of leopard print scarves (along with just about anything else that looks like one of those big cats). Scarves in any type of fabric or print are something that never seems to go out of style.

They are extremely retro, yet so of-the-moment that you can wear one with just about anything. Consider wrapping a long, flowing one around your neck boho style or even tying a small, thin scarf around your throat as if it were a choker (another retro trend that’s definitely back.) You’ll see that there is no limit to how you can wear these pieces of cloth.

7) Neon Colors

Do you remember how much fun neon clothing was back in the 1980s and 1990s? If not, get right on trend today by incorporating these retro colors into your wardrobe. They are made of different fabrics this time around (no spandex), but the colors are just as bright.

8) Crop Tops

While crop tops are a bit tricky to wear, many people can pull them off. You don’t need to be in your 20s as long as you have the confidence necessary to put one on and walk around. Of course, it helps that these crop tops are loose around the middle and not at all tight.

Plus, they show off only a sliver of your stomach when paired with high rise jeans. Remember that comfort and some body confidence are the keys here.

9) Combat Boots

The 1990s were the height of popularity for Doc Martens and similar combat boot brands. Now, you’ll find these boots in a wide array of colors and styles. Look for eco-friendly faux leather ones in bright colors and prints. Of course, you can’t go wrong with the classics (black and brown leather) either.

10) Tiny Backpacks

Throughout the 2000s, women wore a wide variety of handbags, including shoulder bags and even those with cross body straps. The newest handbag trend is even easier to carry – it’s a tiny backpack. You can sling it over one shoulder and carry it kind of like a regular bag, or use both straps as intended. This way, you won’t have to worry about having your hands free for things like texting.
