Fashion Brand Directory : Luxury Fashion Brands

Tonight I launched a new fashion site called the Fashion Brand Directory. The idea is to provide easy access to luxury fashion (the type of fashion, that I unfortunately can not afford). To be honest, the site is not yet completed, but I wanted to inform you about the new guide incase you have suggestions for me. I am looking for truly high end fashion boutiques to list on the site. If you have suggestions on which stores or designers should be added,… Continue

Chain Stitch Skipped Stitches - tip of the day

It is important to inspect the inside of your garments. Unless you inspect the inside of a chain stitch, you will not find drop stitches (skip stitches). Since a chain stitch is not a lock stitch, if there is just one drop stitch, the seam will ravel. A broken stitch may result in an open seam.

The visual sample inspection for workmanship during production includes at least the following steps:

Inspecting Items

Classifying Defects

Recording Defects

Does Mervyn's Owe You For Product Shipped

OK, we all know that Mervyns filed Chapter 11, but if they owed us money, do we know what we should be doing...

Well, to be honest they do not owe me any money and I really do not know the best course of action you can take if they owe you money. However, I do know a good place for you to start your investigation.

Inspecting Seams - tip of the day

Inspect all seams by grasping the fabric on each side of the seam and applying slight pressure to see into the seam. This method enables you to see needle cuts, open seams, and broken sewing stitches.

OK, I guess this blog message can serve as a quality assurance tip of the day...

The visual sample inspection for workmanship during production includes at least the following steps:

Uzbekistan Cotton Concern : September 2008

Recently published articles have highlighted the use of children in the harvesting of cotton in Uzbekistan. Obviously, this is a huge no no. Please check with your suppliers to make certain that they are not purchasing cotton in Uzbekistan.

I am absolutely not saying that every single cotton farm in that country employees child labor. However, reports indicate that the country in general is currently having some major concerns. If you are buying cotton, cotton yarn, cotton fabric,… Continue

Tommy Hilfiger Exclusive Sportswear

Tommy Hilfiger U.S.A has arranged an exclusive alliance with Macy's which leaves Macy's as the only U.S department store offering the company's men's and women's sportswear. It appears that other Tommy Hilfiger licensed product will not be exclusive to Macy's.

Regarding Tommy, my personal opinion is that this is a sign of weakness for the brand and not strength.

Regarding Macy's, my… Continue

Luxury Fashion Spotlight 2008

Despite a soft economy, fashion brands are still launching high-end goods that command prices of $10, 000 and beyond.

With all the concern over consumer spending, inflation, and soaring gas and oil prices, many consumers are scaling back. On one hand, Apparel Search is hearing about a return to the classics and "seasonless" collections that can effortlessly allow fashionistas to move from one season to another. On the other hand, we're hearing about over-the-top excessive luxury… Continue
