IS THERE A BRAND NAMED "ELIAS HOWE "

Elias Howe (July 9, 1819 – October 3, 1867) was an American inventor and sewing machine pioneer. He was born in Spencer, Massachusetts.

Howe spent his childhood and early adult years in Massachusetts where he apprenticed in a textile factory and then for a master mechanic.[1]

Contrary to popular belief, he invented the sewing machine yet many other people, including Walter Hunt, had worked on the idea of such a machine before him. However, Howe refined these ideas into a… Continue

WHEN DID HUMANS BEGIN WEARING CLOTHES

I suppose there are those who will argue about this, but I am proceeding under the assumption that the first humans lived in a climate that was sufficiently warm to keep them alive… Continue

Domenico Vacca Fashion Show

I was very excited to hear the Domenico Vacca will be having its first Fashion Show in the United States. His fashion show debut will be during Mercedes Benz 2009 Fall/Winter Fashion Week at Bryant Park.

The reason I am so interested in Domenico Vacca is not only because of the look but also because they go beyond what great quality clothing is, to them its more, it's an art of sorts.

Pressure Dyeing : Apparel Printing and Dyeing Definitions Series 7 of 7

Pressure Dyeing : one of the popular methods of coloring textiles whereby the material and the dye liquor are held under steam pressure in a closed jig, kier, or vessel. The plan is to provide a quicker dyeing when temperatures necessary are above the boiling point of 212 degrees Fahrenheit.

The idea behind the Fashion Industry Network is to help educate one another. Therefore, I thought that I would use the blog feature to provide a few definitions regarding… Continue

Classic with a Twist

The classic straight suit with a floral print lining, the multi-coloured stripe on a men’s sock, the ‘well-made, good quality, interesting fabric, easy to wear. No bullshit clothing.” This is the style of Paul Smith.

Paul Smith has become known for taking traditional British tailoring to the younger slicker crowds by incorporating classic design with a quirky underlining. He takes the traditional and mixes it with the modern to create a… Continue

Designers May Lose Oscar Screen Time

Due to an all time low of viewership last year (a measly 32 million viewers), the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is not divulging all of the presenters for the upcoming show, meaning they won't have to walk the red carpet. This has put some stress on designers who worry that their work will not be seen on the glamorous night, which has been referred to as "fashion biggest stage" by WWD.
