Hello Kitty Couture
By Aminah Benjamin
Helllllooo adult Hello Kitty fans!!!!!! I’m here to spread the news of a store created just for us adults with Hello Kitty in our hearts. The Momoberry Hello Kitty couture store in LA is all you will ever need to fulfill your Hello Kitty wants. I feel like “Norm!” when he walks through the doors at Cheers, like everybody knows my style, colors, themes, prior purchases and name!
You walk in and you feel at home. The entire store is adorned with products made with the 18 year olds and over in mind. I have to be honest; I shed a tear, a tear of happiness and also a sense of belonging!! Ever since the late 80s I have been an avid collector of any and everything miss Hello Kitty, I call her HK!!. As I left high school and my teens, I continued this obsession into freshman year and beyond. No one understood our connection, HK and I, sometimes calling it juvenile and child like. But if you love what you love there is no time limit, and that is why to this day I am still a fanatic, hence the appreciation for this fabulous couture store!
I graduated college and stepped out on my own into the world of adulthood and career development. Never neglecting HK I would wear jewelry and telephone charms, and key chains as a subtle reminder. As I grew older I began to feel my HK radar world alarm me of anything HK within a five mile radius, meaning my infatuation with HK may have been out of control. Everyone who is anyone familiar with my habit enabled my cravings by continuing to buy on birthdays, Valentine’s Day, and Christmas gifts dedicated to my best friends theme. And this has kept my love alive over the years!
Now in my late twenties I have began to feel like no one understands my shopping relationship that I have developed with HK. To date I have 3 small backpacks, 4 bracelets, 3 phone charms, 5 key chains, 5 writing pens, 3 rulers, 1 bed pillow, 1 Japanese noren, 1 supply organizer, 3 hair pins, 2 umbrellas, 5 notepads, 1 mail organizer, and 1 dazzling diamond Tarantino original tierra. Do you see my dilemma??? But finding this outlet has given me the courage to stand up to those who feel HK love is just for youngsters, and not the young at heart. I think Hello Kitty represents for adult women the connection to our youth, and fun loving times of our adolescent years. These years we can never get back so we have held on tight to this feeling of belonging, security, and familiarity. Hello Kitty does that for me, and I am sure other women have the same connection!
The creators of Sanrio and Momoberry have raised the bar for Hello Kitty fans worldwide. There are only two stores with HK’s original Couture; in Los Angeles’ Beverly Center Mall and Tokyo, and one on the way in Spain, or www.momoberry.com. Momoberry also carries accessories, fragrances, customized embellishments, downloads, luggage, sleepwear leather bags, to the exclusive collection of Kimora Lee Simmons’ jewelry line, and everything in between. I invite you to spoil yourself in everything Hello Kitty, I know I will!!!!!
