- About Me ...
- Mathew DiSpagna, the man behind the jewelry, was born and raised in northern New Jersey. His journey into the world of jewelry design started in 2004 in Boston, MA when he picked up a pair of pliers and galvanized steel and the rest is history. Through countless hours of practice and patience, he developed his skill and strive for excellence in jewelry design. In early 2008 he studied under Daniel Jocz at MassArt where he acquired traditional jewelry design techniques.
Mathew currently resides in Richmond, MA, nestled in the Berkshire Hills of Western Massachusetts. Long days and tireless nights are spent creating and pushing the envelope of contemporary jewelry design. Mathew's designs are influenced by life experiences, however positive, or negative, he believes that the spectrum of human emotions are the highest forms of inspiration available to him.
"A number of things inspire me, light and sound are my all time favorite inspirations, but most recently I have discovered the intense inspiration power that my own emotions have. From love, to anger, to happiness, to disappointment, to grieving the loss of someone. It seems that the more [intense] an emotional event is, the more inspirational it is to me. I almost want to induce all these feelings myself to keep the flow going, but timing is everything, and my mind, body, and soul can only take so much. It’s incredible to me how such amazing and beautiful work can be created through such [emotion]. Designing my jewelry tends to be the only thing that makes sense to me, and the only thing that keeps me level, its medicine for my soul."
