I went to college at University of California, Berkeley. Studied European intellectual history, graduated (Phi Beta Kappa).
I then started a small import business out of my studio apartment. The business generally became a handbag import business, where I designed and manufactured handbags in the Orient and imported and wholesaled them in the USA. (I lived off and on Kong for 12 years.) I met some great sales reps in New York, and began to sell to national chain stores. I eventually built the business to $ 20,000,000+ and finally sold it to my key sales reps and one key employee.
(I now seek to do it all over again. Yet I realize that the business has changed, the world has changed (there is an internet--in other words, the world is FLAT). I seek to find key people to fill key positions: most importantly, a DYNAMIC, TAKE CHARGE HANDBAG / BACK PACK DESIGNER. Someone with great talent and experience. Key ability--to have that golden touch--the demonstrated ability to design consistently exciting, commercially successful handbags and back packs.
Fashion Industry Experience
Stated above. I started a handbag import business with basically nothing and -- with the assistance of some great NY sales reps, ended up selling to the "juniors" market in national chain stores. I lived in Honk Kong for much of the time, and also spent a lot of time in NY working with sales reps on designing and merchandising

John - welcome to the Fashion Industry Network. It is interesting to see that you have already developed a business and are now starting the cycle again with the same business plan. I guess you will now be competing with your former employees. I wonder if it would be more fair to join forces with them so that you can work as a team and potentially double the existing business rather then compete with each other... Either way, good luck to you..
