Anyone have suggestions on the best fabric to use that is a blended fabric that will absorb water and dry quickly. I am sure that you swimwear people, can fill us in...

Here is the question from an Apparel Search viewer today:
"I enjoyed reading about the fabric material posted on your website. It is a good research site. I am wondering what material/fabric combination you feel can absorb the most water and dry quickly. If there is one that you would recommend for each, please let me know.".

My response to her:
I am sorry, but I do not have an exact answer for your question. I suggest you visit the QUALITY TESTING section of Apparel Search. From that area you will find TESTING LABS. Maybe they can help answer your question because they are true textile experts and test fabrics for the qualities you discuss below. Also, maybe you can try the Under Armour site at http://www.underarmour.com/ They do not sell fabric, but they use fabric that does what you are asking. Maybe you can read their product descriptions to try and find some clues to a good fabric to use.

You can find fabric mills at www.ApparelSearch.com/fabric.htm or www.ApparelSearch.com/fabric

hello..here is an answer from a friend of mine:

Cotton absorbs the most water. Hence towels and washcloths are made of 100% cotton usually. The construction of the fabric(read terrycloth with loops) can increase the amount absorbed by a specific area of fabric.

Nylon, polyester, other synthetics mostly just will move some water off the object but not absorb it into the fabric. Hence they dry quickly.

I hope this helps a bit.
Thank you for your comments. I have decided to also look up "wicking". I found a nano fabric company that provides a moisture wicking enhancement for poly and nylon fabrics. http://www.nano-tex.com/products/coolest_comfort.html
Here is some more info from another friend of mine.

"If the person is looking for garments that are really good for hot weather + sports, they need to consider something like CoolMax, which doesn’t absorb water, but wicks it away from the body so it can evaporate from the garment’s surface to the air."
Supplex is a nylon fabric that Dupont created to have all the good qualities of nylon(easy-care,great color retention, little or no ironing, durability, softness, etc.)without the stickiness that nylon creates. Supplex is a high-wicking,highly breathable nylon that comes in many styles including wovens and knits, and can be found with many different treatments such as waterproof / repellent treatments,sun-protective treatments or anti-microbial treatments. This fabric is used to line other breathable fabrics, it can be used as the outer layer of a breathable garment or can simply be used alone as outerwear or fashion wear.
Are you looking for natural fibers or a poly blend performance fabric?
