Read, read, read different publications so you can get to know the media people you will eventually want to reach out to for your clients. You should go to networking events, have a business card and ask people, companies, fashion designers if they need publicity help, the industry isn't an open door most of the times they will shut it in your face but if you hustle believe in what you are doing and especially in your clients you can be successful. Hi Tiffany,
I second Lisbeth's response. Show the people you want to work with that you care enough about what they do and need - basically we succeed because we get a reputation for making the media's job easier. Then you have something to sell to fashion companies - your connections! As a former mag journo and stylist, I still had to network like crazy to get that all-important break.
(I won't comment on blogging as a tactic as I'm not sure of your rationale.)
