Actually, I make my own patterns manually, but I'd like to know more about pattern making software, People always ask me to make patterns for them, ( maybe be I should start a service) .

Working manually does give a better, better garment, draping is the best!!!!!!
But knowing some type of pattern software helps you to know that you are better then
any software(smiles).
Software is just another TOOL-learning one will keep you in the race.

i have the same situation i make patterns manually but making many big patterns is a headache .in that point a software would help .

I have to admit, I'm an "old school" patternmaker. I always develop drafts and first patterns on paper. Once the style is finalized and ready for production, I digitize, grade and mark using OptiTex. However, I will be adding the 3D tools, soon. So, I may attempt to work the other direction with virtual samples. We'll see. It depends on what the customer responds to best.

I would like to know if you see a big difference between Gerber and the Optitex systems? Which would be easier to use. I aminterested in the virtual abilities of Optitex. Virtual fashion shows sound cool to me.

Hi Nadia,
Gerber as well as Optitex offer a 3D module for virtual sampling.
Gerber sources it from an israeli company called browzwear. It works more like a plugin with Gerber while the Optitex 3D is inbuilt into their pattern making solution making it easier to use.

Both solutions have their own strengths.

Hi everyone,my favorite pattern making software is AccuMark of Gerber Technology,but Assyst is good too. I know both and each has it own advantages.
Working by pattern making software is quickly and you could make changes for short time, measures are very precisely.
I agree that some kinds of garment needs manually work and right for this there is a digitizer!

Initially I've learned Gerber. as for now I am working in Reach Technology. I am using CAD for around three years. For making patterns, it looks little complicate in CAD.
commonly in industries, peoples are using CAD only for grading and Marking purpose. because it is easy to learn and speedups quickly. but in my opinion they are loosing the advantages of CAD.
pattern making also can be done easily through CAD but it took some time to learn the techniques.

I sincerely recommend manual pattern makers to use CAD, Because Technology plays a vital role in any field. In my opinion we have to utilize the technology if it is worthy. When technology and experience works together the result will be better than ever. since they are expert in manual they can be better than now.

I work with Lectra Software since 1999. I love it. For pattern making, grading, and digitizing I think Lectra is much better compare than other software but for marker making Gerber is best. Its completely my own opinion. Thanks,
