All hair color is designed to do one thing: to change the natural color of your hair. Hair color comes in myriad shades that you can use to lighten, darken or highlight your hair or to cover gray hair. Yet little difference exists between hair color that is used in salons and hair color in over-the-counter brands. According to an article published in Good Housekeeping Magazine, store-bought hair colors are just as effective as salon-bought products at coloring the hair, camouflaging grays and improving the texture of the hair at a fraction of the cost of having your hair done professionally in the salon. You should note, however, that coloring your hair at home takes practice. If you make a mistake, you should have it corrected in a salon by a professional who is skilled in the art of coloring in order to prevent excessive damage to the hair.
