The Fashion Industries Favorite Business Network ...

Well, I live in the New York / New Jersey area. Therefore, I would prefer that the event takes place near New York. HOWEVER, this makes it hard to keep a zero cost concept for people that live in other states... If this concept is to be successful, we may need to hold events in more then one state.

For arguements sake, lets say that we plan to have events in New York, California, Florida, Illinois and Texas. Each event would need to be managed by a different group of people. This concept does not allow for flight expenses... As a reminder, we are trying to put on a FREE event.

For now, lets forget about international...For those of you living outside the USA, I appoligize. For now, we must focus this imaginary event on USA loations only.

I do think that keeping costs as close to zero for the designers is critical. Certainly, we would not like to look "raggedy" as you mention, but at the same time, I do not want designers spending more money then neccessary. In my opinion, designers are better served by spreading out their marketing expenses over the year rather then burdern themselves by breaking the bank for a one week event. Hopefully, the Fashionista Fashion Week could achieve all goals. Elegant, yet inexpensive...

Regarding the 1st location, I think New York would be perfect.
I think this is a great idea. 1. N. Y. is the fashion capital of the world and we'll get more exposure there than anywhere else, for the 1st time. We could do it elsewhere afterwards. We have to decide we'll go all out, remember, you never get a 2nd chance to make a 1st impression. After we've put on a great show, believe me, the right people will seek us out and then we'll be able to call the shots. So we have to get it right the 1st time. Nothing worthwhile is for free until somebody in the know, knows you.

I say we split whatever expenses it's going to cost and do this. Let's do something great!
My only concern with NY is the cost of a location that could accommodate a fashion event. The location would have to be large enough for runway (or multiple runways), back stage area for models, designers, stylists etc., and room for audience.

I guess instead of a fashion "week", we could have a fashion "day". However, I do not want to limit the number of designs that can attend. One of the purposes of the event is to allow any designer that wishes to attend. If we get a good number of designers that have interest, we may need more then one day.

So, I wonder if picking the location can only be decided after we know for sure the number of days the event would require.

Great to have another person with interest... Hopefully, we can brainstorm ideas and some day, turn it into a reality.

I'm must say that you should also add Atlanta, GA on the map as well since that area is increasing becoming a big music and movie spot. It's on the map. I do like the idea of this Fashionista Fashion Week. Then, you could have an awards show for different catagories..Everyone wants to be known as a Fashionista in their hometown..
Letia - these are some great ideas. I think we may have to start with one city and it will most likely be New York. However, if it works out well, adding Atlanta to the list would certainly make sense. I really like the idea of awards for different categories as well. Maybe, best men's fashion, best women's fashion, etc.
I agree that NY is ideal being the Fashion capital that it is, but I would think that the point that a NY venue would be rather expensive given the square footage that will be needed to host the event and the number of days that are idealy desired. You could have a fashion day but it would either limit the number of designer of maybe just the number of design per designer.

Maybe 2 or 3 main locations should be considered then whichever can provide a venue with the best price and size might be the best 1st location. Media exposure is what is going to give you the best launch. I can catch a megabus or drive to NY, but I think it maybe expensive to for even an overnight stay for other designers not as close. If you do multiple cities I would like to present in Florida.
Thank you for your comments and suggestions. Yes, it would be great to also do one in Florida. I think the first one would for sure have to be some where in the North East just because that is where I live. However, a trip to florida would also be nice.

The reality is that at the moment, I do not have the time to work on this event. Hopefully in the future. At this moment, I barely have enough time to even dream of it...
