I am keen to know what are the most widely used, and best performing drawing package used by designers in the fashion industry. If anyone uses CAD drawing packages, please let me know your comments on pros/cons
Tks
Tara - I have previously put together a list of CAD software companies that provide software for the apparel industry. You can see my list on Apparel Search at the CAD Software page. Personally, I do not work with CAD programs (I am not an artist), but I have a few friends that use Photoshop and Illustrator. You can learn about photoshop and illustrator at the adobe site. Hopefully some other people will respond to your question. Again, this is not my area of knowledge.

The fashion industry in New York, the majority want you to know Illustrator and Photoshop. Now, to what capacity the company wants you to know of these programs..depends on the company right? but the more you know the more VALUABLE YOU ARE TO THEM...which could mean more $$$$.
I'm learning both now myself...it's a good investment in yourself!

I work heavily with Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop for both my jewelry and accessories designs. I'm just getting involved with 3D CAD software for the jewelry industry now. Each segment of the fashion and accessories industry has its own software of choice. I'd recommend researching software suitable to the specific segment you're looking to work in.
