The Fashion Industries Favorite Business Network ...

Im interested in hearing what people think about the origins of a trend. Is it the stylish unknown on the street, is it the designers and fashion houses or is it the fashion pr's and forecasters? Also what trends are you just loving at the moment?

it's a mix of all of the above.

fashion is art.
but at a very real level is about moving the merchandise.
so one sees what has been oversaturated in the market..which trends have been done..and done..and done.
and it gets changed, by the designers, by the fashion editors, pr.
because one's eye does' get tired' of seeing the sameness...and especially today because of the internet and media, trends are spinning out faster and getting saturated faster , whcih means that people are getting tired of them faster.
fashion is always about the new.
but what will be a major change will be the basic silhouette will change and when that happens, accessories and hair get effected also.

marc jacobs new collection ( Fall 2010) for Louis Vuitton is the shape of things to come.
cartoonish platforms will disappear, oversized shapeless handbags are also on their way out.
a very feminine, womanly, look will be making a comeback.
no platforms, smaller heels, smaller structured bags.
hair will continue to move off the face, and 2011 will see short hair trending again.

fashion is like a pendulum.
when it has swung to the extreme in one direction, it's only a matter of time till it swings back in the opposite direction.

fall 2010 has very heavy 80's references.
but there were also references toward the 50's.

contrasting with the return to a more feminine look, will be a streamlined sleeker look.
so the 80's aggressiveness will be replaced by 60's sleekness & simplicity.

a good designer will be inspired to design for the 'future' and set trends.
like marc jacobs and as the late alexander mcqueen did brilliantly.

it's also age/body relevant.
a younger person will always be trendier than someone older.
an older person should pick one or two trends which they are able to wear well and no more than that.

my quotes:
fashion is for the youth of each generation.
style is for the rest of us.
good taste always fits well.

what are my picks for the month?

a little military inspired black jacket.
skinny black trousers
platforms.

khaki trousers
silk blouse
ysl tribute high heels.

modern floral 3/4 sleeve coat
nude coloured dress
nude high heels.
I think that trends originate from the creativity of inspired individuals. It starts as an idea that soon becomes a visual representation of the actual design. Fashion trends are always a good thing regardless if people will like it or not. There's a market for every product and design, but really, it's all just a matter of preference.
I think that trends can start from any one of the above areas you mentioned. Or possibly a combination from all of the above. In addition to street trends, designer originated trends, and PR manipulated trend development, trends may start from movie stars, TV shows, etc. I wonder if any fashion trends have originated from the internet???
trend comes from a creative mind, modeled by celebrities~fashion influential peeps.
