the summer trends...

envelope/clutch type bags .

shows have changed..platforms are less noticible and over.

late 70's/early 80's influences...very strong.

androygeny..

proportions will change.

flowing voluminous

high waisted trousers..

shorter boxier tops..

in contrast will be a sleeker more geometric angularity.

Florals are huge, mini skirts with high ruched waists, bright reds and black and whites, lace and pleats... this season's summer trends are very feminine I believe, and I was surprised to see Maryanne's description of androgeny .. curious for some examples as I have not picked up on this trend for this season!  Many thanks to all you fashion forward people out there...

spring 2011 will give way to autumn 2011..

there is always a smaller trend in each season..which translates to a larger trend next season.

a testing ground of sorts for designers..

so within strong trends..there will be more subtle blink & you miss them trends..those are the trends to watch & pick up on.

there is a masculine vibe in quite a few of the autumn winter shows..chanel..etc..

here is a clip from givenchy spring 2011:

shorter hair will be returning...there's a mini trend of cropped tops and a bit higher waists on trousers..which is a definite return to the early 80's.

not a literal translation, but subte.

proportions will shift..and with that hair & make-up.

when a trend becomes saturated..fashion changes.

the real reason fashion changes is to keep people buying.

if apparel didn't change from year to year..people would hold onto what they aleady purchased.

that is the difference between fashion & style.

"Victorian Pioneer girl, Faye Dunaway in Bonnie & Clyde (again), West Coast surf culture,  Native American blankets, chain and leather harnesses, retro 1950's(again), and another collection that was influenced by Liberace and Trident Vitality gum." -John Heilpern, Vanity Fair September 2011

Also lots of red, cheongsmas, sarongs, turbans, Mandarin collars, and other Asian inspired things; but don't try this it will be as dead as trying to appeal to the East with Asian models.

Put some color to your fashion this season..colorful bags, or shoes, or accessories!!

I am seeing feathers, feathers, everywhere! I think that will be major for cooler fall fashion. Major ruffles and romantic influences with jackets.
I've been seeing a lot of 70s, like people above me have said. Not just in accessories but also in the cut of pants (wider, lots of menswear fabrics) and in the blazers.
