Wearing a work of art

My daily goal is to clothe myself in works of art. I am an art history student, and currently working on a thesis about the interchangeability of art and fashion. Fashion is so often dismissed as superficial and frivolous, at least in many settings, particularly academic ones. I am attempting to interlock art and fashion, and let people know that dressing themselves is an expressive form of art. With that said, I would also like to say that I am going to be graduating in May, and while I love art history and feel is has provided me an excellent eye for and understanding of aesthetics, I would truly like to pursue a career in fashion. Particularly, fashion styling and fashion coordinating. While I have no prior experience, I feel my background in art, my traveling in Europe, and my proximity to NYC, could work to my favor in achieving my goal. I am contemplating writing a fashion blog, as well as attempting to sell some vintage clothes, purses and jewelry that a family friend wants to get rid of, and also attempting to work with my local newspaper for writing a weekly column with style advice, with the particular premise of fashion for less (I love thrift stores!). I am just wondering if anyone has any concrete advice about getting my foot in the door and what approaches I should take or contacts I should try and make. Thank you very much, and sorry for the lengthy posing of the question.
