Selling a fashion company

Hi,

I am a consultant for a small boutique clothing company based in Los Angeles and am trying to get a better understanding for larger parent companies who are interested in buying up smaller, successful companies to add to their portfolio.  Does anyone have any advice on areas to look for this?  What is involved? 

Any insight into this would be very helpful as i am much more versed in the actual business management process of the company's intended sell than I am in the fashion world.  Here to get a better understanding of the players and companies who might find us attractive.
