I'm doing some work for a fashion magazine now though ! I would say study on your own and it helps a lot !

You have to study on your own and design your own portfolio. There’s a lot of competition out there. Just keep on applying to new jobs. What do you normally design? Clothing, CZ Rings, shoes, or textiles?

Well my advice is at least work on your portfolio! pictures ( professional pictures) and drawings
The first look on your portfolio people will judge your creativity and techniques.Pictures must be good enough to impress
do you know how to use photoshop ?
How to sew?

those are at least the basic s....

Good Luck this is a very very difficult Market crowded with prof and non prof , talented and not talented people.
