I am in the early stages of creating my own clothing line and I am not exactly sure of what steps I need to take in order to get exposure and get my samples seen by those in the fashion industry. Can anyone suggest any ideas???? They would be really appreciated!!
1. what would you define your line as? ( sleek, sophisticated, trendy, feminine, classic...???)
2. what makes your line unique?
3. Is it werable?, sellable, flattering?
4. which age is able to wear your clothing?
5. what will your price points be?
Go to the stores.
see where the clothing is placed. what is getting the most floor space.
observe what is selling.
ask questions of sales people and shoppers.
bottomline for any store is: will it sell?
the market is very tough at the moment, because of the economy.
new york city has been hit particularly hard.
but it is not impossible for your items to be seen by the buyers and have orders placed.
the questions i wrote out above is how you will present " the story" of your line to the buyers.
for example:
"my clothing line is sleek, sophisticated and feminine, it translates for woman of all ages, made of such & such fabric, afforable at so & so price point"
do not email the buyers.
emails can be erased at the click of a mouse.
instead call them. no one will ever hang up on you.
set appointments even if it's just for 5 minutes.
time is money for you and for them.
know exactly what you are going to say to them in that 5 minutes.
sell sell sell.
start small, with boutique owners, then build to the larger stores.
hope i have helped.
best of luck to you!
Yeah that is right and you can even have a fashion show so that people will see your collections or tie ups with a fashion accessories bazaar or fashion related activities that you can show some of your items.
