The Fashion Industries Favorite Business Network ...

I would like to know how to go about getting sponsorship for a fashion event. Because, i'm just starting out and i do not have enough money to fund the event, i would appreciate any ideas as to how to go about it.

I have a great idea to help upcoming designers in my country to showcase their talent.

Any ideas??? I'd really appreciate it

I have seen some events sponsored by liquor companies. Maybe you can contact a vodka supplier and ask for their marketing department.

Hey, Kimberly!

Congrats for having the interest to start an exciting yet challenging fashion project!

I don't know the event details so here are some general ideas.

Since you are starting and you don't have experience careful planning should be taken. You also need to be very creative,  and have great organisational and management skills to solve the little problem of funding a fashion event from zero, nothing, nada! :) It is very important also that your fashion event is focused from the start to the end, from its left to its right...Perhaps focused on promoting the launching of collection of emerging designers, on a particular segment (womenswear), or even an specific subsector (ethical clothing), or may be based on a theme (cinema, music, summer, flowers, plus-sized models, etc.)! So having a pretty good understanding from the beginning about what (vision) and where do you want to go with your fashion event (your goals) should help you define a good event plan (the how's). And having this knowledge can give you more choices for thinking new ideas of differentiating your event from others and stand out from the crowd! :D

So if you haven't done it breakdown your fashion event plan to prepare yourself a budget because potential sponsors would like to check the profile and some details of the fashion event like its media impact, number of expected attendees, fashion journalists involved,  location proposed, designers involved, know how much and where their money/support is going to be spent, etc.

To be successful your fashion event project should be planned with your sponsors in mind. That is it should be aligned with and support sponsorships goals (perhaps they are looking to create brand awareness for the relaunch of a product, or the brand may be looking for a public event where they can deliver samples of a new product to the folks attending the event). If you were applying the same logic to the other participants of the event, then you could be creating loads of synergies of all sorts for the overall benefit of everybody involved in the event (a quality and nice fashion event + the time/effort/money of each participant to be there = a fashion event that is greater than sum of its individual parts!).

So that said...consider every participant a sponsor

For instance, there are well-known beauty brands (i.e. L'Oreal) that may be interested in using an attractive catwalk show to launch or promote a new make-up product (same goes for accessories or jewellery designers/brands). Talented stylists could also be interested in participate for free if they were invited to work with emerging designers they love. Professional local models could donate their time to participate if the event raises their profiles (i.e. like having well-known media involved to broadcast or cover the event). Press or fashion bloggers could be interested if there was a launch of a new collection from an exciting new designer they like. Etc.

If you were putting money into the fashion event (perhaps 25% or more) sponsors could feel more secure putting money in because you'll give them an impression that you, the organiser, is really committed to produce the show. Your commitment is another critical factor for success.

I'd also recommend you to ask directly to fashion event producers that hang out here in the FIN that had produced a similar fashion events to the one you are planning to do. And feel free to ask me if there was anything I didn't explain myself clear.

Best of luck! :)

Thank you guys so much for the advice. I'll surely consider and work on each detail. Thank you sooooooo much
hello kim...i'm facing this all the time. depending on your event make certain you network and partner with non profits.  establishing yourself is the first step and that may take a couple of efforts.  do smaller events with other desigers or clothing stores.  depending where you are they are a number of sources. I receivced funding from one of our casinos here in southern california.  there are quite a few in our area and depending on what you goal is they are willing to step in quite a bit. make certain your budget is large enough to cover lots of promotion which is what sponsors look for. I am President of the Palm Springs Fashion Council and I have a lot of experience in this area. you can reach us at for more specifics or go to our site if you have any other questions please let us know.  we also sponsor the young designers progam where we support and promote young designers in High School, Design School and Out of School...much success and prosperity

Just came back from Southern California and just wondering what casinos did you mean? I usually gamble online ( currently got 1500 euros bonus ) but I visited a few rather decent casinos in Cali last week, may be those were yours.

Well impressive & informative information to brush up my plans to float same under, as the site is being under renovation process...

Hi Rod,

This is a great piece of advice! Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Wish you a great success Kimberly!

hey rod,

a really nice explanation.....impressive...hi Kimberly, hope your brand is doing well and the show is happening.....

As rightly said by Kimberly, you should decide the sponsors for the vent and then design it in a way that they get some highlight moments. Before approaching them, you should be pretty sure about "why you want them to sponsor your event" and "what will be their benefits of giving sponsorship".

Mloyal is into Mobile loyalty business in retail industry and deal with various fashion brands. With experience, we can say that people in fashion industry are intrested in sponshoring events if they find it beneficial for their business. Due to tough competition they always want to stand out in crowd by becoming the part of some event.

From Nigeria, huh? Guess there's some good news, and bad news to that question:

Bad news first: Sadly, your location is kind of inhibiting in your venture. Your list of contacts and people who can donate to your cause might seem qutie challengingespecially with world media everywhere. But,

Some Good news: Africa is quickly becoming a mecca for fashion (check out an "Africa Arise" fashion show). Lots of people to bounce ideas with.

I would expect to make no money in this beginning venture. The easy way would be to go to night clubs. Many will surprisingly, be glad to help you. Free publicity for them (along with all alcohol revenue). This is where you could make some pofit-I would say start low, but others will contradict this. Give yourself about four months of advertising & promotions-inlcluding a month of rehersals, and about two months to get your models. Get confirmations from your designers &  models. This the way I usually get mine going. I try to ask for direct sponsorship, but nobody has time for smaller shows (do you have Coke or Papi companies there? Don't you have an "African Top Model" of sorts? They are linked to Africa Arise). Usually a few models will flake out. Some designers will try to tell you what to do. Best bet is to get someone to direct traffic behind the curtains. You stay out front!

Thanks for the wonderful advice guys. You have all been so helpful. I am planning a show soon. I would be sure to keep you posted with the details. Thank you so much

Build up how much subsidizing is expected to back the form appear. Diagram a strong occasion advertising design. Make a rundown of potential supporters and decide a sensible evaluating plan. Make a reality sheet and letter of proposition. Approach organizations with related interests for sponsorship. Seek after non-financial sponsorship.
