Hello all!!!

I've been wondering about something for along time but never asked. Basically I wanted to know do any of you think it is likely to get an entry level job for a designer as a receptionist, assistant etc with little experience? My goal is to start my own line but for now I want to get as much hands on experience as I can and starting from the bottom up is the best way. So does anyone have any similar experiences or advice on how to go about getting any type of entry level position in fashion? I'd be so gracious for ANY information on this!!!

type in fashion. you will be amazed at how many jobs there are for interns.
good luck.
An internship is a great place to start. Most positions are un-paid so if you have the time and money to take the position then go for it! That said, internships are few and far between, as Maryanne has pointed out Craiglist is a good place to look, as are other online directories & fashion networks.

Like I said, internships arn't on offer willy-nilly & companies offering them are very picky about who they choose- after all, they can afford to be. You may be very keen to take the position, but applying should be done so with care. I suggest that you do your research into what the neccessary requirements are for entry level positions. Rushing into an internship without a decent knowledge of the industry or any previous experience is very unlikely to get you the job, sad but true. What's more is that wasting the time & effort of any company is going to put a 'black mark' next to your name in future.

Good ways of getting experience include assisting freelancers; photographers, stylists, designers, boutique owners etc... This not only looks good on your CV, but also can lead to other industry connections & open many doors.

Alot of people in the industry will tell you they just 'fell into' the jobs they have. You just have to keep your finger on the pulse with your eyes peeled & hope you are lucky enough for the same to happen to you.
It really all boils down to your existing skills. If you seem to have a passion for fashion - at least in the employers point-of view, then your chances of landing an internship is greater. You need to position yourself in a manner that portrays great interest in the field of fashion. Even an entry level position can be a difficult to get due to the high demand of qualified individuals. In this current economy, employers are seeking only the best when it comes to hiring or offering contract internship positions.
