Finding Vendors and sewing contractors!!!!!!!

So I have been looking for a reliable sewing contractor for a while now and it seems like they are really difficult to find in LA. I have in the past worked for vertical companies who did everything on site or sent them overseas but in this company we need to get sewing done locally. the problem is all the vendors we worked with are really unprofessional, can't stick to deadlines or specs and give us attitude when we ask for better quality work!

How does one go about finding good vendors? It seems like everything is the fashion industry is run by word of mouth and referrals! is there an angie's list equivalent for fashion vendors???!!!!

Your advice will be much appreciated!
