Fashionista Definition

What is the meaning of fashionista?
Who are Fashionistas?

I am not certain where or when I first heard the term fashionista. However, I do realize that the word is some what new to my vocabulary. Ever since I started writing fashion blog posts, I find myself utilizing the word rather often. Some times, way too often... Fortunately, I am not the only person throwing this term around. It is evident that other fashion bloggers abuse the word as well.

Recently I asked a friend to write an article to help me wrap my fingers around the concept of what it means to be a fashionista. Maybe her explanation will help us all come to terms with the origin of the word. Here is the Apparel Search explanation of the meaning of Fashionista.

fashionista has taken on a negative connotation.

it sadly means the women who are slavishly addicted to and opinionated about fashion and dress and name drop accordingly.

fashionista is not someone who loves fashion as art, or fashion as beauty.

a fashionista is someone who loves their image in the latest fashion is offering,
whether or not the look is suitable for them.

fashionistas are not working in any part of the fashion industry, they are the ones with the plastic to keep the industry $pinning.

For one, we can also consider someone as "fashionista" when she carries herself with confidence. Regardless of her body shape or size, she is able to reveal the feminity in her.

Hi
My definition is someone who takes risk in expressing themselves through the clothes that they wear. Someone who is always comfortable and exudes confidence in what they wear. I'm a fashionista, because the above description is how I represent myself. I never conform...I only see fashion and then convert it to suit me. It's always about individualism.

I my self uses the word fasionista in my blog, and I can give a meaning, yet I cant really explain it. I love fasion and I my self is a fasionista, I maybe a religious woman but fashion is in my heart, and I take it to my being religious, that I may consider my as a collector of church dresses since my high school days.

Fashionista is an informal term for someone who closely follows the latest fashion/trends, particularly high-end clothing.
This may be a part of his/her job, or on a personal (and possibly compulsive) level.

i have also one Fashionista is a documentary-esque fashion show hosted by Lee Lin Chin on the SBS network in Australia. Fashionista is usually broadcast on SBS' Saturday late-night line-up
