Fashion student

Hello every one

I am going to be going to the academy of art university in the spring of 2010 as a fashion design. I can not wait to get started. Can any one tell me how long did it take Gucci or Marc Jacobs to make it big like they are today? I know that it will take a lot of work and i am up for the challenge. I know that fashion is a hard business to get into but i know that i can do anything i want if i put my mind to it. Can any one give me some advice on how to make it big in the fashion industry please.
