Fashion Internship NY City

Hi,

I´m a student from Holland, I´m about to graduate at a dutch university. Before this happens, me and a friend of mine need to find a internship in an enterprise where we can do our internship for 2 days a week and write a graduation report about a topic related to fashion and the enterprise we internship for. An example of an graduation subject is to find a problem within the enterprise, investigate this, write a report about this with solutions to fix that problem. It also can be completely something else, it depends on the enterprise.

We both would like to graduate at an enterprise or designer in New York City together, this doesn´t mean we should have exacly the same internship, I´m more drawn to Fashion, Design, Styling, Trendanalyses. My friend is more drawn to Marketing, Green concept thinking, how and why do people buy certain products.

My question is can someone tell me more about where we can apply for internship placements, does anyone have suggestions for enterprises in the NYC area related to fashion?

Renting space or rooms in NYC? and other things that we need to know about internships and living in NYC?

they have listings for internships as well as places to live, so it's a good website to start with.

the number one thing you need to know about an internship, especially in the current economy is that many companies are " using" interns instead of salaried employees.
( Yes, it is that bad currently in nyc)
also, the fashion industry was not built upon charity.
in other words you will be made many promises about what the internship will do for you.
but remember it's a competitive industry.
yes, you will make contacts, but that is no gurantee of a job.
the job market is very very tough right now because of the economy.
step cautiously and carefully.
have a lot of money if you plan to live in manhattan, and a full time paying job also.
i am being very realistic in my answer to you.
