It depends on how your entering the market, will you open your own boutique and sell your own label?
or your selling your collection to retailers?

Ofcourse the second option is less costly, as your money will be spent on the collection and website!!

thanks for reply... i live in Newcastle upon tyne so this is where i will target first, my product "occasion dresses" i have been making dresses for past yr for customers who will come to me with a dress idea i will work with the customer to reach a final design measure and make this dress to fit her perfect , i now want to put my own designs into action as-well as my made to measure service.. i have a very good eye for fashion and design and i no what my customer wants. my customer is a socialite and likes to wear very unique dresses that not many people have which is why i only make ten of each design.... all my dresses are made from the best of satin and are lined in rich satins. risk factor!! i have researched Newcastle for competitors and can not find anyone offering the same service as me using the same luxurious fabrics with a made to measure service to go with it

Do you have any experience in business management? It's great that you have a degree in fashion design I'm assuming? Take things slow, as careful preparation is going to be the number one key to your initial success. Gather all of your ideas and incorporate them into your business plan. Regardless if you'll be investing with your own assets or need the assistance of a small business loan, you still want to have a business plan ready prior to launching your new venture.

Additionally, you might have the most beautiful designed clothing but if no one knows you exist then what's the point? Therefore, you'll want to hire someone who will be in charge of the marketing and promotions (online & offline).

Design a website that is intuitive to use, allows for shopping, and utilizes all of the social media functions such as Twitter and Facebook to spread the word about your new business. Build your network with other fashion designers; although not with those who potentially create any conflict of interest. Brand your company image by writing blogs and adding fresh content to your website. This is an on-going process that never really ends, so stay motivated.

I hope this information helps you even of the slightest bit. I wish you success!

Best regards,
Ramil
hi Rimil, first let me thank you for your reply, all feed back is helpful this early in my venture. I do have a degree in fashion but unfortunately i don't have any management experience as of yet although i have been looking into studying a business management course at college. i have wrote my business plan, which took me forever so I'm hoping maybe this time next year fingers crossed i could be ready to launch

thanks again

Has anyone else reviewed your business plan?
There are many things you need to consider upon starting your fashion business, like you must first make a feasibility study on where you want to put up your business, then in it you will learn how much your capital must be, then try to consider what are the products you will be selling on that place, will you be offering other services, and are you concentrated in offering only dresses, will there also be formal suits, cocktail dresses, plus size women's clothing and others? on your feasibility study, you will also learn how much will you be able to earn in a period of time and how long will it take before you will be able to get back the amount that you have used to put up the business, will you be able o achieve that in the place where you are going to put up your business?

Okay, I can see you have already created your business site and now, its time to share your fashion business site to register at business directories like Scangator, Yelp, Google Business, etc. Then, your products description and meta titles should also be engaging and you should try your best to engage target niche. If you list your business at Scangator or Yelp, your expected buyers would able to see your business background, sales history and reviews of previous clients as well. Secondly, you can use social media as a business promotion tool as well.
