I think we all want info on this
I think the celeb thing is the way to go, in the research I have done it always seems to be a designer becomes famous when just one huge celeb wears its product. Doesnt matter if its a shirt, handbag earrings,jeans its always the same, but HOW DO YOU GET TO THE CELEB
The only way to go is through thier stylist, but in Australia we really dont have huge celebs let alone them have stylist, so Im starting to look overseas now for stylist of the stars

I think your site is retrogod.com is great and looks professional, your products are very NOW and buyable, if thats a words

IF anyone has info could you please add to this thread, any
help would be great

Thanks Rubi - yes we want celebs! Perhaps we could all contribute freebie vouchers to a virtual goodie bag and then hopefully find some way of getting that in a few celebs inboxes via agents, stylists, journalists?, there must be a way!

Oh I wouldn't really think we had a choice, most movie stars are very hard to approach, music is a little easier, but as with fashion, they are always swamped with freebies. Perhaps it's a matter of finding the companies that offer those goodie bags to celebs at awards ceremonies etc. Hey we could pay the waiters to leave them on their tables ;) No seriously, there must be a very simple way in. I've noticed a competitor of mine www.truffleshuffle.co.uk has a few celebs wearing their designs. Perhaps you could get some pointers from them, they won't tell me because they know who I am lol. I think they are worried about the competition from little old me hehe.

I had a look at there site, but you know what Im not sure if the celebs are wearing their shirts or someone elses. Im only saying that because we have the exact same shirts in some stores here under their own shops labels, like jay jays, just jeans etc, They are exactly the same that are in the celebrity gallary
If you look at the first shirt misha barron is wearing, the red carebears one, in the shop it is listed as made by junk food. So that means they are either a reseller not the designer or that is one of the labels they print for. What do you think? If they are a reseller then they are not doing any of the promotion for it anyway, just using it on their site to their advantage. hmm i will look into it more LOL

Forgot to say it the australian shops they are only au$14.95 to $19.95 so the prices are quite high once you convert the dollars

Retro God - I do not think that their is any "sure fire" method. Fortunately for you, you have many good things going for you already. The main one being good designs.. Anyway, regarding the "celeb" approach. In my personal opinion, it would be better to work via a PR company rather then approach a celeb on your own. Unfortunately, the celebs understand that what they wear does in fact make a difference to the world.

If you are interested you can find a list of fashion PR companies from this link. The problem with using this approach is that the PR companies obviously cost money...

By the way, in my opinion "buyers" (retail store buyers) may be more important to you at this time then celebs to wear the garments. You may want to focus your attention on contacting stores rather then celebs.

If you need info on where to find buyer names let me know. Unfortunately, those are in books that also cost money.. Anyway, I know where you can find the books if you need them.

Hi

I'm in a tricky position. I make just a dollar per tee, the rest goes to Cafe Press. I need a few thousand to get my own DTG printer. Until then I can't approach any other retailer, there would be no profit involved. PR would be the way to go in the future, but for now I doubt I can afford the expense - especially as it doesn't ensure that even just a couple of photos of stars wearing my tees (which i will supply free to any bona-fide celeb- including tv, sport, uk-based) will turn up - it would be the fastest easiest way to get up the ladder - I am still sure of that - take a peek at www.truffleshuffle.com - they r probs the most successful UK t-shirt shop online right now - they have at least 20 stars wearing their togs. You wouldn't know who does their PR would you? That would be very useful to me! Thanks for all the advice, I will ask my PR friend in the UK for a lil more advice!

In regarding to your profit margin, I wonder if you can find another printing company to provide you a better cost. In my opinion, you should be making more then a dollar per shirt. If you can not lower your printing cost, possibly you can figure out a way to lower the purchase cost of your blank tees. Sorry, I do not have resources in the UK.

It is understood that you prefer to buy your own printing machine. However, until you can save up, try to push your current suppliers to offer you better cost prices so you can increase your profit per shirt (so you can eventually buy your own machine).

ah well cafepress offer the best dtg service - i could hike the prices and lose the sales - but for now its all pr - however thanks for your advice - i have tried spreadshirt but no dtg - so will stick with the original plan and rely on the quality of my designs to drum up support - appreciate you taking the time though - thanks - paul - http://www.retrogod.com

Retro,

I run my online sales through Cafepress as well. My suggestion is to find offline fulfillment for your shirts. I have three local screenprinters that are way more cost effective and better quality then Cafepress. Always remember that retailers are going to want around 100% mark-up to make their profit, so lowering your cost per unit is the only way to make it worth your while.
